Working With a Commonwealth Games Hopeful
I have recently been contacted by Scotland international 200m and 400m sprinter Grant Plenderleith to help him achieve his goal of reaching the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
For 5 years Grant played football with Stenhousemuir until he went back to his roots in athletics.
His most notable achievement to date would be breaking ex-Olympian Brian Whittle’s 400m Central and South of Scotland League record which had stood for 27 years.
Grant has stated that his 400m personal best is 47.9 seconds with the standard being 45.5 seconds, and 21.7 seconds at the 200m with the standard being 20.8 seconds. Requiring less than 1 second to achieve his goal.
During our time working together I will be focusing on reducing Grant’s body fat mass and increasing muscle mass. By successfully achieving this it will give Grant the extra muscular power he requires to gain the extra second needed to make the standard.
There is a lot to be done but Grant clearly has the ability to make it to the games and with participation clearly meaning a lot to him I will do everything I can to make this happen for him.
You can also read about Grant’s journey in an article in the Scottish Daily Record on Friday 18th October 2013. (https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/other-sports/athletics/commonwealth-games-scottish-400m-hopeful-2464982
Speaking to Grant ahead of working with him he said “Nutrition is a key part of any athletes training and I am looking to use Craig’s knowledge and advice to put a plan in place that I can follow. This will play a key part in my development as an athlete and help take me to the next level.”
Check back for updates on how Grant is getting on with his training and preparations for his goal of 2014 selection.
